Drawing dimension lines
You tin can depict dimension lines to indicate the distance between 2 points in a cartoon or the size of objects. Yous can add several types of dimension lines:
• | Parallel dimension lines measure the actual distance betwixt two nodes. |
• | Vertical or horizontal dimension lines measure out the vertical (y-centrality) or horizontal (x-axis) distance between any ii nodes. |
• | Angular dimension lines measure angles. |
• | Segment dimension lines measure the linear distance betwixt the terminate nodes of a segment, or the linear distance between the ii most distant nodes in multiple segments. Segment dimension lines can besides measure out selected successive segments. |
Dimension lines from left to right: Angular, Horizontal, and Vertical
Yous tin set how dimension text and lines are displayed. For example, yous tin choose the unit of measurement, specify the position and font of the dimension units, and add together a prefix or suffix to dimension text. You can also set default values for all new dimension lines that yous create.
Y'all can customize the extension lines on which dimension lines rest. You tin can specify the distance between the extension lines and the object that is measured, and the length of the extension overhang. Extension overhang is the portion of the extension line that falls across the dimension arrows.
Y'all can customize dimension lines by specifying values for the extension overhang, extension line, and distance from object.
By default, dimension text is dynamic. If you resize the object to which a dimension line is attached, the dimension text is updated automatically to display the new size. You can make the dimension text static, nonetheless, if necessary.
To exist able to use dimension lines with precision, you need to snap them to specific nodes in objects. For more information virtually snapping and snapping modes, meet Snapping objects.

4. | Click where y'all want the bending characterization to announced. |
To depict a segment dimension line | |
ane. | In the toolbox, click the arrow in the lesser-right corner of the Parallel dimension tool |
2. | Click the segment that you want to measure. |
3. | Motion the arrow to where you want to position the dimension line, and click where you desire to place the dimension text. |
You lot tin also | |
---|---|
Measure the distance between the two most distant nodes in multiple segments | Using the Segment dimension tool |
Measure successive segments automatically | Click the Automatic successive dimensioning push |
Segment dimension lines tin be applied automatically to selected successive segments.
To fix the display of dimension units | |
2. | On the holding bar, cull options from the post-obit list boxes: |
• | Dimension style — lets y'all choose fractional, decimal or standard dimension units |
• | Dimension precision — lets you lot cull a level of precision for the measurements |
• | Dimension units — lets you cull the unit of measurement |
You can besides | |
---|---|
Hide dimension units | Click the Display units button |
Specify the position of dimension units | Click the Text position button |
Change the bespeak size and font of dimension units | Select the dimension text by using the Pick tool |
Specify a prefix or suffix for dimension text | Type a prefix or suffix in the Prefix or Suffix box on the belongings bar. |
Hibernate or show a leading zero with a dimension value | Click the Leading zero push |
Brand dimension text static | Click the Dynamic dimensioning button Most dimension line controls on the belongings bar become unavailable. If yous change the size of the object to which the dimension line is fastened, the dimension line text is not updated. |
To set default backdrop for new dimension lines | |
1. | From the toolbox, double-click the Parallel dimension tool |
The Dimension tool page of the Options dialog box appears. |
2. | Specify the dimension style, precision, and units, prefix, and suffix. |
To customize extension lines | |
2. | On the property bar, click the Extension lines options button |
iii. | To specify the distance between the extension lines and the object, enable the Distance from object check box, and type a value in the Distance box. |
